Her mother Dragana was a lawyer and her father Miroslav was a businessman by profession. From the age of five, Ivanovic started her training in tennis after being inspired by tennis player Monica Seles. Since there were no proper facilities, Ivanovic used to practice playing in an abandoned pool.
