On 1928, in Rosario, Argentina, Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara was born. His father was Ernesto Guevara Lynch and his mother was Celia de la Serna y Llosa. He was the eldest of five children and Guevara’s family came from a Spanish descent, however, he also had Irish blood from his ancestor Patrick Lynch. Che Guevara had an affinity towards the poor which he may have gathered from his left aligned father. His father’s political leanings led to Che’s exposure to politics at a very early age. He studied medicine at the University of Buenos Aires, but his hunger to see the world led him to take two long introspective journeys that would shake the core within him and change him completely. This journey with his friend Alberto Granado would later be published as the international bestseller and one of the iconic piece of literature to come out of the 20th century – Diarios de Motocicleta or The Motorcycle Diaries.



Che Guevara’s family belonged to Catholic faith, but he being a Marxist follower denounced any religious ties to become an atheist. He married twice- first to Hilda Gadea, whom he divorced in 1959 and then to Aleida March, an active combatant in Che Guevara’s Lightning Campaign.Che had five children one with his first wife and four with his second wife.
