Born on November 25, 1969, Dexter was attracted to sports from an early age and was passionate about karate and gymnastics. He was even into break dance. His bodybuilding career started in 1992 when he participated in and stood third in the Lightweight category of the NPC Southern States Championship. From there, it took him 7 years to kick start his real professional career. In 1999, he participated in three prestigious contests like the Arnold Classic where he stood 7th; Night of Champions where he ranked 3rd, and Mr. Olympia where he finished 9th. In 2007, he again took part in Mr. Olympia and finished third. The next year was his as he defeated Jay Cutler in the same contest to win Mr. Olympia title. From here, his rise to popularity and fame began. 2008 was a very special year for him in which he won several titles. In 2012, he left everybody stunned by winning the Masters Olympia at the ripe age of 43. In 2015, he won the fifth Arnold Classic title which is a record. He also holds the record for participating for the maximum number of times i.e. 17 in the Mr. Olympia show.
