Hill is currently 30 years old and was born on January in Sheffield, a borough in South Yorkshire, England. She is believed to have Jamaican-English ancestry. Her father is a decorator and painter by profession while her mother was a social worker. Both her parents were into sports while in school. Her father enjoyed a game of sprinting while her mother was a regular player at high jump. In 1996, Hill was encouraged by her parents for participating in a sports competition held in Don Valley Stadium, which she feels was just an excuse to take her out in the sunshine for some exercise. She fortunately won the race and also met her future coach Toni Minichiello. She got a pair of trainer shoes as a prize for winning.

After her first win, Hill immediately started taking training in the sport when she was only 11 years. She joined the City of Sheffield Athletic Club and went on to win the best performance award when she was fourteen years. Hill attended the Sharrow Primary School and King Ecgbert School. She graduated in Psychology in 2007 from the University of Sheffield.

Hill started her career with high jump and pentathlon games. She went on to win several gold, silver and bronze participating in European Junior Championships, World Indoor Championships, World Championships and Summer Universiade. She bagged a gold medal in 2012 London Olympics. In 2015, she won gold for heptathlon race in World Championships. Hill managed to clear 1.95 meter in high jump, which so far only 10 athletes could manage and ran 100 meters for 12.54 seconds which was her personal best. She has a record in heptathlon with 6995 points beating Denise Lewis with 6831 points.



Hill got married to Andy Hill in Derbyshire, 2013. She could not make it to the Commonwealth games due to her pregnancy in 2014. She has a son named Reggie who she gave birth to on in July, 2014. Apart from being an athlete, she is the brand ambassador for Jaguar Academy of Sports and advertises for famous brands like Omega, Adidas, Olay, Aviva to name a few. Hill also is a regular columnist for The Times.
