Abbot was born and brought up In Flint, the largest county of Genesee City, Michigan, United States.  Aged 48 years now, he had played with one hand missing throughout his life. He graduated from Flint Central High School and showed immense interest and talent in baseball games. He played a s quarterback and stand out pitcher in his school. Abbot went on to win the Ypsilanti Michigan American Legion Championship.

Abbot was coached by Bud Middaugh and played for Michigan for three years since 1985. In 1989, he joined the team California Angels and played as a rookie. In 1991, with his outstanding performance his team won 18 matches and Abbot attracted positive publicity. He changed his team throughout his career namely the New York Yankees, Chicago White Sox and Milwaukee Brewers.  His team won a gold medal in the 1988 Seoul Olympics, a silver for Pan American Games in 1987 and another silver for Baseball World Cup, Rome in 1988. His last game before retirement was in 1999 with Milwaukee Brewers.



Abbot married Dana Abbot in 1991 and has two children. The entire family lives in California. Currently he works with the Department of Labors’ Office of Disability Employment Policy to encourage and propagate employment amongst disabled people. He is also a motivational speaker and a guest instructor for Los Angeles Angles team. In 2012, he co-authored his autobiography, Imperfect: An Improbable Life. He has also appeared in TV series and reality show episodes.
