Laverne was born on May 29, 1972 in Mobile, Alabama. She was raised by her mother Gloria and grandmother in the AME Zion church. She has an identical twin brother, M Lamar who is a musician and artist. Laverne’s childhood was not as easy and glorious like that of the other children. She was born as a boy, but as she grew older, she realized that she felt herself as a girl. These feelings gave her really difficult times. She would be bullied by her fellow mates for not behaving like a usual boy and for having feelings of attraction towards her boy classmates.
