As a producer he has several accolades under his name. The Final Countdown became a blockbuster in the 1980s with a domestic box office collection of $16,647,800. After graduating from Yale University in Chinese, Kaufman released his first trial film named The Girl Who Returned. His second feature film, The Battle of Love’s Return, got him a lot of recognition and good reviews.
Kaufman faced a serious of flops which included Tromas War (1988), Tales from the Crapper (2004), Sgt. Kabukiman N.Y.P.D. (1990) and even Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead (2008) which although received positive reviews from New York Times and Entertainment Weekly, was a financial disaster in itself. Return to Class of Nuke ‘Em High Vol.1 released in 2013, received positive responses from the critics and was praised to have an eccentric funny feel to it as stated by New York Times. The Toxic Avenger was successful and a major hit. But the subsequent sequels could not create a lasting impression for the audience.
Under the pseudo name of Louis Su, Kaufman produced several movies, the first being Sugar Cookies (1973). Prior to this he had produced Rappacini (1968). In between 1979-1981, Kaufman wrote, directed and produced a series of sexy-comedies namely, Waitress!, Stuck on You!, Squeeze Play! and The First Turn-On! These became popular in no time.
Kaufman has also served in the board of Directors in Trinity School, New York. He has three daughters and is happily married for 39 years! He is still passionate about his work and continues to create magic on screen.
