Michael was born in Princeton, New Jersey on 1970. His father English Showalter is a retired French professor and mother Elaine is an author, literacy critique and professor. Apart from his parents, he has an older sister, named Vinca Showalter LaFleur. By profession she is a speech writer. His father is an Episcopalian and mother is a Jewish. He is leading a married life since the year 2011 with his better-half Anne Ellis and is father to two lovely twins.

He also teaches screenwriting at New York University’s Graduate Film School.  He took all the possible opportunities to expand his work because he found happiness in it. He has been part of numerous projects, his latest ones are his television show “Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later” and his film, “The Big Sick”.
