Farrelly was born on January 28th and is now 38 years old. He was born and raised in Cabra, Dublin in Ireland. He did his schooling from Scoil Caoimhin Primary and Colaiste Mhuire Secondary School. Both were Gaelscoil which is a term used for all Irish medium schools. As a child, Farrelly was interested in music and football. At the age of 13 years he joined the Palestrina choir and sang and played in the group. Alongside he appeared in shows like Live at Three and Late Late Show. He actively played Gaelic football and rugby and was a fan of the Liverpool FC football team. He received a National Diploma from the National College of Ireland. He is White by ethnicity.

Before taking up wrestling full time, Farrelly worked as an IT Technician as well as a security at a night club. He was inspired by the American and British wrestling styles which he watched on television. He started training from the Monster Factory Wrestling School, 2002 April onwards. His debut was with Robert Pigeon in 2002 with only six weeks of training. During this time he appeared with the ring name Sheamus O Shaunessy and became popularly known as the Irish Curse for his low blowing way of wrestling. He suffered serious neck injuries due to a hip toss and could not participate in any of the competitions for about two years. In 2004 he started his career again with the Irish Whip Wrestling competition held in Dublin. Farrelly won the WWE championship four times, the United States Champion two times and International Heavy-weight Champion two times. He was first trained by Larry Sharpe and is currently trained by Mark Starr.

Farrelly debuted in acting with a minor role in the Irish movie Two Crosses in 2006. He went on to acting in several other movies and TV series like Dustin’s Daily News, The Escapist, Royal Pains, Ninja Turtles and the like. He currently is signed by WWE and has shortened his ring name to Sheamus.

Farrelly dated Brooke Hubbard, beauty queen and Realtor by profession in 2013 but eventually broke off. He was recently spotted with his girlfriend in the WWE Hall Of Fame awards. He currently lives in St. Augustine in Florida, United States. Farrelly made it a point to adopt the Celtic mythology image to remove the stereotypical image of Irish fighters and has been successful in doing so. He has an amiable nature and loves experimenting with his hair.
