She was born in 1984 and began singing at an early age. Her first big break happened when she won the Sa Re Ga Ma singing competition television show in 2000. Her amazing talent as a singer got her widespread notice and she was soon offered to sing for the movie Devdas by film maker Sanjay Leela Bhansali. She soon became a singing sensation after singing hit songs like Morey Piya and Chalak Chalak. The film starred Indian Superstar Shahrukh Khan and became a popular hit this propelled her career as one of the top singers of the country. For Devdas she won her first National Film Award and Filmfare Award for the best singer. This success was followed by other top movies of the time like Omkara, Main hoon Na and Munnabhai MBBS.



In total she has already won four National Film Awards and six Filmfare Awards till date, making her one of the most awarded female playback singer in Indian Film Music history. She was belongs to a Bengali family and was born in West Bengal. However, she grew up in Rajasthan in a small town near the city of Kota. From early childhood Shreya Ghoshal wanted to be a playback singer and because of her mother, whom she considers her first Guru (teacher) and best critic, she began learning classical singing from the age of 6. Later she moved to Mumbai with family and finished her college education where she studied Arts with English major.
