The family moved frequently due to her father’s occupation. She moved from Washington township to Mantua Township in New Jersey in 1991 and then from Sugar Land to finally Delaware with her mother for enabling consistent practice lessons in skating. Finally Lipinski settled in Detroit, Michigan.



Lipinski started learning skating from 1988 in Philadelphia and won the US Skating Championship when she was only nine years old. She won the gold medal in 1994 Olympics as well as World Championship and twice ranked first in the Grand Prix Skating Competition. Coaches Richard Callaghan and Megan Faulkner were closely associated with her and Sandra Bezic was her choreographer all throughout her skating career. Lipinski retired as an amateur in 1998 and as a pro in 2002. She withdrew her name from the 1998 World Championship due to a glandular infection which made her severely ill.

Lipinski got engaged to television producer Todd Kapostasy in 2015 December. She is the spokesperson for Boys and Girls Club of America and is closely associated with Make-A-Wish Foundation and has worked actively for fighting and aiding leukemia patients. Apart from skating, Lipinski endorsed several brands and products like DKNY, Minute Maid, Kellogg’s, Target, Chevrolet, Hallmark, Kodak to name a few. Several autobiographies were also written on her namely Totally Tara and Triumph On Ice. She bagged the title of Best Female Athlete in 1999 and was included in the Hall of Fame for US Figure Skating as well.
