Beers was born on 1952 in New York, United States. He is currently 64 years old. His father was a service manager for Ford and his mother a local actress in New York. As a child he aspired to make it big in Hollywood which was a distant dream with his family background. His most dreaded chore as a child was to walk their pink dyed poodle gifted to his mother by one of her friends.
Beers changed four different colleges but did not graduate. He then relocated to Manhattan and spent his 20s and early 30s trying his hands on acting and script-writing. He then finally settled with a job in Turner’s Production in commercial television production.
In 1997, Beers started off independently as a producer. The following year, Steve Burns an executive of the Discovery Channel approached him to film the catch of the ice crabs in Alaska in a one hour special show titled Extreme Alaska. That time ice crab hunting was one of the most primitive and deadliest professions in America. The duo set off just to spend two days in the sea but was stuck for a week in the middle of a ferocious storm. Beers contracted ‘the claw’ syndrome and fell extremely ill. The crew filmed the entire incident and soon Beers realized the intensity of the entire profession. 5 years later, the show Deadliest Season, a three part mini-series won extreme viewership with a matter of few days and within a year Deadliest Catch made its debut in the Discovery Network. He appeared in several reality tv shows with stars like Alex Debogorski, Andy Hillstrand and Jake Anderson.
Beers is considered extremely successful as a producer for America’s top rated shows like Monster Garage, Monster House, Plastic Surgery: Before and After, Ice Road Truckers, Axe Men and Storage Wars. Though many have imitated his style of presentation, Beers is considered to be the pioneer of the adventure non-fiction series. Beers is currently the CEO and executive producer for his own company known asn “Original Productions” which he has been successfully running since 1999. He has been the CEO and chairman for FermentalMedia. Along with producing, Beers had narrated in several hit shows of Discovery Network and National Geographic channels.
Beers is married to Leslie Beers and has a son named Max Beers who is studying in Highland Hall Waldorf School. His wife is the president of Amygdala Music which produces all the music used by Original Productions as well as sells licensed music to other companies.
