Laurer was born on 27 December, 1970 in Rochester, New York, United States of America. Her parents divorced when she was only four and she and her two other siblings moved several times from 1973-1983 due to their mothers multiple remarriages.

As a growing child, Laurer faced a lot of hardships. Her stepfather once tried to commit suicide and her biological father was heavily into alcohol. She was molested by her school teacher in the 7^th grade and raped twice by older men when she 16 years. At 16 years she left home and started living with her biological father. She also suffered from eating disorder.

While in school, Chyna learnt the cello and the piano. She attended the penfeild School and graduated with a major in Spanish literature with French and German being her other subjects. She became the member of the Reserve Officers Training Club and joined the Peace Corps. She was detected with Ovarian tumor when she was a teenager and could fight the disease due to her strong abs. Laurer wanted to establish herself as a federal Bureau investigator or a Drug Enforcement advisor. But eventually she went on to get training as an airhostess. On the very first day of joining she met with a serious accident and lost her job as well. Her sister helped her with odd jobs like selling beepers and later a as a belly dancer. Laurer worked also worked as a singer in a band and a pub waitress at different points in her life.

Laurer tarted participating in fitness competitions and debuted into wrestling in 1995. She entered the WWF championships and is the first woman for Royal Rumble and King of the Ring. She won the WWF Women’s Championship, WWF International Championship and is considered the 9^th Wonder of the World. She became the first female enforcer. After retiring in 2001, Laurer entered the NJPW in 2002 and TNA in 2011.

Laurer has acted in several movies as well as television shows like Fear Factor, The Surreal Life, Pacific Blue, Celebrity Rehab and many more. She appeared in Playboy magazine and released sex tapes with her boyfriend titled 1 Night in Chinaa and Backdoor to Chyna which received immense exposure and awards.

In 2010, Chyna was hospitalized for overdose of medicines. In 2015 she reconciled with her family. Laurer had a disturbing romantic relationship with Sean Wattman since 2003 till 2005. Prior to this she had dated Triple H for 4 year since 1996. In 2014 she turned to Mormonism and started teaching English. On August 20, 2016, Laurer was found dead in her apartment in Redondo Beach, California. Postmortem reports revealed that a mixture of anxiety medicines, sleeping pills and alcohol was responsible for her death. Her brain was donated for Traumatic Encephalopathy research and she was cremated and her ashes were flown in the Pacific Ocean. She was only 45 years when she die.
