Claressa Shields is a native of Flint, Michigan. Shields’ father, Bo Shields is also a boxer. Bo is the one who introduced Claressa to boxing and since then there was no turning back. Shields was always motivated by Laila Ali, boxer daughter of the legendary Muhammad Ali. Bo’s mother and Shields’ grandmother is the one who encouraged her to break any restrictions that may pose due to her gender, and that has been a cause for Shields to be adamant in pursuing a male dominated sports like boxing.
