Abbot was born and brought up In Flint, the largest county of Genesee City, Michigan, United States. Aged 48 years now, he had played with one hand missing throughout his life. He graduated from Flint Central High School and showed immense interest and talent in baseball games. He played a s quarterback and stand out pitcher in his school. Abbot went on to win the Ypsilanti Michigan American Legion Championship.

Abbot was coached by Bud Middaugh and played for Michigan for three years since 1985. In 1989, he joined the team California Angels and played as a rookie. In 1991, with his outstanding performance his team won 18 matches and Abbot attracted positive publicity.
