Shook was born on 6 November, 1962 in Russellville, Arkansas, United States. He is an American by nationality. Shook attended the Klein High School in Spring, Texas and graduated from the same. Later he went on to study in Baylor University in Waco, Texas and then he completed his education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary situated in Fort Worth. Shook’s father expired when he only 13 years of age and from then he got the entire responsibility to look after her mother. He started church services from the age of 18 years initially addressing only a group of 100 people.

Shooks founded the Woodlands Church in 1993 formerly known as the Fellowship of The Woodlands located in Texas. He expanded campuses located in various other places like Tomball, Atascocita and Conroe area. The entire congregation merged with the main campus in Texas. At present the entire group of churches attract around 17000 visitors belonging to all age groups every year. 2005 on wards Shook started spreading his message through broadcasting in local Houston television, the first being Channel 55. With growing popularity other channels like channel 5, CW 39 and DayStar also started broadcasting Shook. At present, Shook’s Ministries is broadcasted in over 50 states of America as well as 200 other countries throughout the world.
