Caputo was born in Bayville, New York, United States on August 31, 1956. During his childhood Caputo developed a strong association with a chick which he adopted from a neighbour. He was heartbroken when his family had to leave Bayville and shift to Queens without the rooster. He was very fond of playing hockey and continued playing for his school and college team.

Caputo passed out from college and entered into food business from a very young age. He slowly expanded his imported food business and was very successful in doing so. Alongside he played hockey for nearly 25 years and also trained his son. His love for animals enabled him to have several pets and he tattooed his body with sketches of a rooster, eagle and a dove.
