He started gold digging from the age of 14 year along with his father Steve and had a dream of taking up gold mining his profession which was also his passion.

The full time family business turned out to be lucky for the Pomrenkes as they were approached by Discovery Network to follow them onscreen through the reality show Bearing Sea Gold and Bearing Sea Gold: Under The Ice. Shawn often termed as Mr. Gold, is seen onscreen to be full of energy and passion after his father. He is the boss of the vessel Christine Rose which he co-owns with his father.
